Rumor: Windows 8 preview build coming next week

    Posted: 06 Jul 2011 06:29 AM PDT

Several sources are claiming that a Windows 8 Community Technical Preview (CTP) build will be released next week. This rumor isn’t without hope however. Microsoft is holding its Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) from July 11 through July 14. One reliable source we have seen in the past is MSFTtm on Twitter, who also has claimed Microsoft will release a Windows 8 CTP build at WPC 2011.

According to PCWorld however, the CTP build may not be intended for end-users, and are geared towards use by developers and IT professionals. I think what they actually mean is that the build being distributed will still be distant from a beta, RC, or RTM build.

That being said, history has shown that builds distributed at events by Microsoft tend to leak pretty fast. It will be exciting to see whether the Windows community will see a leak soon.
